BRONX, N.Y. - John Kelly and Christian Shaner won two individual events apiece, but the VMI Keydets dropped a 134-124 decision to the Manhattan Jaspers in non-conference swimming action Friday evening in Bronx, N.Y. The Keydets dropped to 0-2 on the year with the loss.
Kelly swept the two sprints, winning the 50 and 100 freestyle races. He touched the wall in 21.99 at the shorter distance and 48.19 in the 100. Shaner, meanwhile, prevailed in the 100 fly (53.63) and and 200 free (1:49.19).
Both Kelly and Shaner came back in the 200 free relay to pace that unit to a win along with Christian Rowcliffe and Matt Johnson. The foursome timed in at 1:29.25.
In addition, Johnson won the 1000 free in a time of 10:34.51 and Bret Tomajczyk earned his first career win, as he prevailed in the 200 breast with a time of 2:23.30.
VMI men's swimming and diving will return to action Saturday, when the Keydets face Saint Peter's and NJIT in a tri-meet in Newark, N.J. Action gets underway at 1 p.m.
