CHARLOTTE, N.C. - VMI's Reed Garrett and Brandon Angus earned Second Team All-Big South honors, as the league's postseason awards were announced late Sunday.
Garrett, of course, had his season highlighted by the Feb. 21 no-hitter against Lafayette. He also second in the Big South in opponent batting average (.205) and 10th in innings pitched. The junior finished the year fifth in ERA in the Big South at 2.23 and helped the Keydets shatter their team ERA record for the aluminum bat era, a mark that had stood for 40 years.
Angus finished the year 10th in the conference in hitting at .333 and led the league with 29 stolen bases. That mark was good for a tie for third in VMI single-season annals, and was just four shy of David Groseclose's school record of 33, set in 1995. The honors are the first collegiate post-season awards for either player.
Both Garrett and Angus are scheduled to play for the Yakima Valley Pippins in Yakima, Wash. this summer.
In addition, David Geary was VMI's representative on the all-academic team.
