Edwards Leads Women's T&F on Day One of BSC Champs

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Logan Edwards finished seventh in the hammer throw, leading the VMI Keydet women's track and field team on the opening day of the Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C.

Edwards, who had come in with personal best hammer throw in three straight meets, ran that streak to four Thursday with a 49.25 meter (161'7”) heave on her second throw of the day. That was good for her first career scoring effort at a conference meet.

With the two points earned by Edwards, VMI sits eighth in the team standings through three events. Coastal Carolina leads the way with 32 points, with Winthrop second (22) and Liberty third (21). UNC Asheville (14), Campbell (11), High Point (10) and Radford (5) round out the other teams with points in the early going of this year's Big South Championships.

Other results for the Keydets Thursday included Thireyona Legg finishing 12th in the long jump (5.25 M/17'2 ¾”) and Rachel Sing finishing 23rd in the hammer (35.46 M/116'4”).

VMI track and field resumes the Big South Championships Friday, as action in Rock Hill, S.C. gets underway at 10 a.m.
