STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Virginia Military Institute women's water polo team headed for Wagner College on Staten Island for a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference games. The Keydets fell in both contests, 10-6 against Villanova University and 12-6 against Marist College. Both games were contested at Wagner Pool.
In the Keydets' opener, freshman and reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week Bailey Huddleston was a force to be reckoned with as she potted five of the team's six goals. Senior Molly Andoe accounted for VMI's sixth goal. Sophomore Emily Cait Farsakian defended the Keydet cage, making five stops against the Wildcats.
VMI (11-18, 3-7 MAAC) held a 6-5 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. But the offensive pressure slowed as Villanova put away five goals in the fourth while shutting out the Keydets, giving the Wildcats the win.
The Keydets' scoring in game two against Marist was more spread out as five different players netted goals. Sophomore Caitlyn Jackson was the lone multiple goal scorer, while Huddleston, Andoe, Cecilya Lundy and Celine Lazzaro each struck once. In the rack, Farsakian made another four saves.
VMI returns to action on Sunday when it takes on Wagner and Iona College. Both games will be contested at St. Francis Brooklyn's SFC Aquatics Center. The Keydets and Seahawks square off at 9 a.m. followed by a 2:30 p.m. tussle with the the Gaels.
