Rifle Concludes Day Two of Weekend Matches

LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Virginia Military Institute rifle teams wrapped up a weekend of competition on Sunday as the women's team concluded its shooting from Saturday. The Keydets shot a 4,233, topping University of the Sciences of Philadelphia's 3,797.

VMI was paced by Vania Murica, who fired a 558 on the air rifle side. Rachel Jankelow shot a 551 on the same side while Emily Hill logged a 539. Katherine Watson was VMI's final scorer on the air rifle side for a combined 2,181. Hill topped the VMI scoring in smallbore, firing a 538. Murica was second with a 520, followed by Jankelow's 519. Watson rounded out the smallbore scoring with a 519, giving the Keydets a 2,052.

USciences was led by Selina Dao, who put through a 534 in air rifle, followed by Allie Tuman and her 529. Christina Ta shot a 461 while Swetha Kumar notched a 456 for a combined 1,980. Dao again led the Devils in smallbore with a 503, pacing Tuman's 497. Kumar logged a 434 while Lauren Stabler notched a 311 for a team score of 1,817.

The nation's second-ranked squad, University of Kentucky, also shot at VMI's Kilbourne Hall Rifle Range, firing a 4,650 as a mixed squad, edging North Carolina State University, which is ranked 17th in the country, shot a 4,584.

Kentucky had the top shooters on the day as Connor Davis logged a 580 out of 600 on smallbore and Heather Kirby was nearly flawless with a 593 on air rifle. The Wildcats had six of the top seven smallbore shooters on the day, while sweeping the top seven positions on air rifle. Lucas Kozeniesky was the Wolfpack's top shooter on smallbore with a 580 while Daniel Cliff topped NC State's air rifle with a 582.

The Keydets return to action on Nov. 8 in Dahlonega, Ga. as VMI takes on University of North Georgia, ranked 19th in the most recent Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association polls.
