CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dalton Kuhar and
Hannah Dickinson recorded personal best times to lead VMI women's cross country Saturday at the 6K Charlotte Invitational, contested at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C.
Kuhar was VMI's top finisher, finishing 38th in the gold section with a time of 23 minutes flat. She was just seven seconds ahead of Dickinson, who was 42nd in 23:07, a personal best time by one minute, 36 seconds. It marked the third consecutive meet that Kuhar and Dickinson had been VMI's top two scored runners.
“Just like last week in Buena Vista, Hannah and Dalton worked together early and moved on from there,” said cross country coach
Jennifer Fazioli. “This week, in fact, they were together until the final hill with about 600 meters to go, and they both ran very well.
Molly Western continues to impress me, looking strong through injuries, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention our walk-on,
Casey Clune. She fought hard in her first 6K and has continued to strive to get better every day.”
Molly Western was VMI's third runner, finishing 63rd in 23:45 for another personal best, while
Hannah Best was 78th (24:53) and
Casey Clune was 79th (25:33).
Kelly Russell rounded out the Keydets in action, finishing 86th in 27:12. As a team, the Keydets (297 pts.) finished 12th of 13 in the gold section's Division I grouping. Mississippi State, Charlotte and North Florida led the way, while the Keydets defeated North Carolina A&T. VMI did not enter any runners in the race's green section.
VMI cross country is back in action Oct. 18 in its final tune-up before the Big South Championships, as the Keydets compete at the Blue Ridge Open in Boone, N.C. Action gets underway at 3 p.m.
