Allard Leads VMI in Saturday's Action, But Keydets Drop Pair

LEXINGTON, Va. – In the team's final home meet of the 2010-11 season, VMI women's swimming and diving dropped a pair of duals, losing to Mount St. Mary's and Liberty Saturday afternoon at Clark King Pool.

The Keydets were led by Briana Allard, who broke her own varsity records in both the one and three-meter diving events for the second time in the last three meets. Allard notched 200 points in the one-meter event and 215.25 in the three-meter version to win both competitions. Both marks are currently sit 11th on the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association's (CCSA) performance list for this season.

Those were the lone overall event wins for VMI on the day, as the team fell to Liberty 86-18 and lost to the Mount 73-28. Liberty defeated Mount St. Mary's 72-23 in the other dual.

Although Allard was the Keydets' lone overall victor Saturday, VMI did pick up a win in the dual scoring. Freshman Mia Cunicelli just missed her own school record in the 100-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:16.30 and defeating competitors from the Mount. Cunicelli was bested by two swimmers from Liberty in the race, and finished third overall.

In addition, freshman Meghan Doss was fourth overall in the 50-free, touching the wall in 27.54 seconds.

Both of the VMI swimming and diving programs are back in action Friday, Jan. 28, taking on Davidson in a road matchup. That meet is scheduled to get underway at 5 p.m.
