Cunicelli Sets Another Record, But Keydets Drop Pair

WASHINGTON, D.C. – VMI women's swimming and diving dropped a pair of decisions Saturday, losing to Catholic and Howard at a meet hosted by Howard in Washington, D.C. The Keydets fell to Howard 129-30, and were defeated by Catholic 165-20.

Despite the setback, several VMI swimmers had solid efforts on the day, led by freshman Mia Cunicelli. For the second time this year, she set a new varsity and freshman record in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing 2nd with a 1:16.29 clocking. She rallied to finish sixth in the 50-free (27.57), a race that classmate Meghan Doss was also in, finishing 8th. Doss came back to place sixth in the 100, clocking in at 1:02.20.

The Keydets also set a freshman record in the 400-free relay, as Cunicelli, Erin Mauss, Hannah Donovan and Flora Edelbrock touched the wall in 4:41.67. Edelbrock was 6th in the 100-breast (1:18.33), and Briana Allard came home second in the one-meter diving event, piling up 180.75 points.

The VMI women's swimming and diving team is back in action January 15, as the Keydets play host to Mount St. Mary's and Liberty in a tri-meet at Clark King Pool.
