WEST POINT, N.Y. - Despite three goals from Tim Moran, the VMI Keydet lacrosse team dropped its second road matchup of the young season Saturday, as they fell 16-3 to the Army Black Knights in West Point, N.Y.

The Keydets kept pace early on the breezy, 28-degree day. At 10:48 of the opening frame, Tim Moran notched his first goal of the campaign, scoring an unassisted marker to knot the score at one. However, the Black Knights quickly responded, scoring two goals in a five minute span later in the quarter, and Army took a 3-1 lead after one period. Sean McCoy stopped six shots in the opening frame, continuing his impressive effort in the season's opening contests.

VMI and Army traded goals to start the second quarter, as Tim Moran tallied with the Keydets a man up. The sophomore's second goal of the game came at the 12:55 mark, and cut the Army lead to 3-2. From there, Army scored five goals in the final 6:11 of the half, and the Black Knights took an 8-2 advantage into intermission.

The teams fired a combined fifteen shots in the third quarter, but the attempts only resulted in two Army goals. The Keydets managed a final period marker by Moran, his third of the contest, but the Black Knights put six shots into the back of the net in the final quarter, accounting for the final margin of 16-3.

The Keydets were only called for three penalties on the day, and for the second consecutive game, VMI managed a strong percentage on clear attempts, as they were able to successfully do so 11-of-15 times.

On the individual side, Moran was the key contributor with his three goals. The Keydets also saw faceoff specialist Lowell Patterson grab six ground balls, and Sean McCoy stop thirteen shots on the day.

VMI lacrosse (0-2) will return to action Saturday, February 23, when it travels to Louisville, Ky., to take on Bellarmine University (0-1). The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
