The Keydets (0-10, 0-3 Big South) were aggressive early on, as they outshot Winthrop (8-3, 3-0 Big South) 11-8 in the opening period. Four of the VMI shot attempts came in the first 15 minutes, as the visitors came out strong. Winthrop would add a third goal less than eight minutes later, as the Eagles scored off a series of passes to increase their advantage to 3-0. The home team would conclude the scoring in the 80th minute, as they tallied a goal off a rebound in front of the net to account for the final 4-0 margin.

Adrian Dominguez made six saves in his 22 minutes of action, while Mitrovich made 11 saves for Winthrop. The Eagles committed nine offside violations, but outshot VMI 21-6 in the second half to help ensure their win.

The Keydets return to action Saturday, as they take on Appalachian State at Patchin Field.
