CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Sophomore hurler Chris Henderson won his third-straight mid-week decision over an in-state opponent, pitching 7.2 innings against #3 Virginia last Tuesday. For his effort, Henderson was named Big South Conference New Balance Pitcher of the Week for games played April 2-8, it was announced today by the League office.
Henderson (Fredericksburg, Va./Colonial Forge) set down 15 batters in a row on his way to a victory against the Cavaliers. He scattered seven hits and two earned runs while tying a career-best with seven strikeouts as the Keydets defeated their highest-ranked opponent in program history. Just four days later, Henderson was in position to defeat High Point, facing the minimum through six innings before leaving in the seventh with a 3-2 lead. On the week, opponents hit only .208 against the right-hander, as he struck out nine while walking only two in 13.2 innings of work.
On the season, carries a 3-1 record with a 3.28 ERA, striking out 35 while walking only 11 in 46.2 innings.
The Keydets return to action on Wednesday evening, taking on Norfolk State on the road at 6 p.m.
