LEXINGTON, Va. - Senior javelin thrower Chris Brandriff qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships by winning the javelin throw in his first outdoor event of the season, while sophomore hurler Trey Barham tossed a complete game, two-hitter in the Keydets' Big South opener against Charleston Southern For their efforts, Brandriff and Barham have been named VMI Co-Athletes of the Week, as announced by the VMI Sports Information office Wednesday morning.

Brandriff (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) won the javelin competition at the VCU Ram Invitational on March 17 with a throw of 61.76m (202'-6"), shattering his own school record and qualifying for the NCAA Regional Championships.

Brandriff, the reigning Big South Conference champion in the javelin, also re-broke his own school record by more than two and a half feet at 61.76m (202'-6"). This also marks the second time in as many seasons that Brandriff has been selected as VMI Athlete of the Week.

Barham (Portsmouth, Va./Greenbrier Christian Academy) hurled his first complete game in his first career Big South Conference start, limiting CSU to only a third-inning single and fifth-inning double. Following the single, Barham retired 18 of the next 19 batters, while he struck out six and walking three Bucs.

Barham also became the third Keydet to be named to the College Baseball Foundation's National Honor Roll this season. The list highlighting top performances from around the country each week had already honored Kelly Sweppenhiserand Travis Smink for their performances earlier this year. Barham was also named Big South Pitcher of the Week this week for the first time in his career.

The VMI Track and Field team officially kicks off its 2006 outdoor season this weekend when they compete in the UNCW Invitational on March 24-25. The Keydet baseball team hosts Norfolk State Wednesday at 2 p.m., followed by a weekend series at Patchin Field against the Brown Bears.
