Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

VMI topped by Midshipmen

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's soccer team battled to a scoreless opening half with the visiting Navy Midshipmen but ultimately fell by a 3-0 score Sunday afternoon in a Military Appreciation Game held at Patchin Field.
 
VMI (1-6-1) played with aggression and elevated effort in the opening half as Navy was only allowed six shot attempts over the opening 45 minutes while the Keydets took three.
 
The Middies (6-2-1) took over in the second half as they outshot VMI by a 15-4 margin en route to the win.
 
Roughly midway through the second half, the VMI committed a foul deep in its own territory and Navy was rewarded with a penalty kick, which Kayan Adlam put into the lower right corner for the game-winning goal at the 67:41 mark.
 
One minute later, Navy's Helen Bonner took a shot well outside the goalbox and slotted it into the upper right corner for her first goal of the season.
 
With under 10 minutes left in the match, Hannah Mulholland of Navy took another deep shot from outside the goalbox which tipped off VMI keeper Maren Ryberg's fingertips and into the net for an additional security goal.

*Ryberg finished the game with nine saves on the day while Nay keeper Shea Best finished with one save  
*VMI's Madeline Karsonovich led the team with three shots while Isabella Franco and Jordan Davis both took two 
*Adlam led Navy with five shots on the afternoon while Chiara Cosenza and Faith Graziano both had four. Mulholland finished the game with three shot attempts
*Both teams finished with three corner kick opportunities
