Women’s Soccer Edged by Richmond in Late Goal

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI women's soccer team battled Richmond for 90 minutes Thursday afternoon at Patchin Field, but a late goal from the Spiders proved to be the difference as the Keydets fell 1-0.
 
VMI and Richmond played to a scoreless first half, with the Keydets continuing to battle as the match remained deadlocked deep into the second half.
 
VMI goalkeeper Maren Ryberg turned in a strong performance, making nine saves to keep the Keydets in the match. The VMI defense also held Richmond off the scoreboard until the 81st minute, when Morgane Zinn found the back of the net to give the Spiders the lead.
 
Ella Peterson recorded VMI's lone shot on goal, while Nixon Carpenter added three shots for the Keydets.
 
The Keydets return to action Sunday when they travel to UNC Asheville for a 4 p.m. kickoff in Asheville, North Carolina.
