VMI falls to Virginia Tech on the road

Box Score BLACKSBURG, Va. – Despite trailing ACC power and in-state foe Virginia Tech by just a goal at halftime, the VMI women's soccer team fell by a 6-0 score to the Hokies Sunday night at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Virginia.

The matchup was the first between the schools since 2004 as the Hokies improve to 2-0 all-time against the Keydets in the series.

The Keydets (0-2) battled with the Hokies for much of the opening half until Virginia Tech (2-0) striker Anna Weir snuck behind the VMI defense and put in the game-winning goal in the 34th minute (33:56).

Virginia Tech came out hot in the second half and scored 16 seconds into the stanza for a 2-0 lead at the 45:16 mark. Hokie Johannah Bradley struck the back of the net again 23 seconds later (45:39) to put Virginia Tech up 3-0 early in the final half.

The Hokies would go on to score three more goals over the final 40 minutes to earn the win.

*In 72 minutes of action, VMI goalie Maren Ryberg logged 10 saves on the night before freshman Makena Corcoran replaced her and registered one save over the final 17 minutes
