Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer falls to UNCG at SoCon Tournament

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Facing No. 6 seed UNCG a second year in a row in the Southern Conference Tournament, the No. 11 seed VMI women's soccer team fell by a 2-0 score to the Spartans Friday night at Summers-Taylor Stadium hosted by ETSU in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Despite the Spartans taking 12 shots in the opening half, neither team could find the back of the net as the schools went into the break deadlocked at 0-0 after 45 minutes.

UNCG came out firing in the second stanza and shot the game-winning goal in the 48th minute (47:55) when Avery Barr slotted the ball in following a cross by Laney Smith. Just two minutes later, the Spartans connected again when Merle Greulich took a pass from Magdalena Krug and put it in in the 50th minute (49:53).

The Spartans would go on to score two more insurance goals later on in regulation to put the game out of reach to effectively end the 2026 campaign for the Keydets.
