Men’s T&F opens strong at VMI Winter Relays

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's track and field team is off to a good start at the 2026 VMI Winter Relays at the Corps Physical Training Facility following the first day of the event.

Sophomore Tazewell Rae placed second in the shot put with a distance of 15.31 meters just ahead of Elisha Williams' mark of 14.60m for sixth place.

Junior Zach Denton came in fourth in the long jump at 7.05 meters and freshman Deonte Harris arrived in seventh at 6.84 meters.

*Harris also competed in the 60m hurdles prelims and qualified for Saturday's final with a sixth-place time of 8.36 seconds

Excellent Marks
*Freshman Nicholas Russo finished seventh in the 5000m in 16:24.67
*The DMR squad of Timothy Renquist, Isaac Osouna, Camden Gonzales and Russo placed seventh in 11:21.96

"Day one set the tone for us. The men got us on the board early—Rae Tazewell and Elisha Williams scored strong in the shot put, Nicholas Russo picked up points in the 5K and our DMR group battled well. On the women's side, Naturale Faison advanced in the 60, Shea Hart and JeNiya White moved on in the hurdles, and Morgan Fraser delivered points in the high jump. The energy in the facility was excellent, and we're excited to come back Saturday and keep building."
