Lacrosse heads south to face Queens

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI lacrosse team will play a second straight road game as the Keydets head south this weekend to face Queens University Saturday afternoon in Charlotte, North Carolina.
 
Face-off is set for noon at Queens Sports Complex.

The Keydets are coming off a thrilling 17-15 win over Hampton this past Saturday a few days after giving a good fight at the Naval Academy in a respectable 19-12 loss.
 
Junior attackman Dayton Bagwell was named this week's Northeast Conference Player of the Week after totaling 14 goals last week, including seven in each game at Navy and Hampton. With 21 goals through four games this season, he ranks second in the NCAA at 5.25 goals per game and third in points at 6.0 points per contest. His shot selection and accuracy have been on point thus far as the York, Pennsylvania, native also ranks eighth in the country with a .583 shot percentage.
 
About the Royals (2-2)
Queens looks to earn a second straight win after taking down NEC foe Mercyhurst by a 14-11 score Sunday in Charlotte. The Royals fell in consecutive weekends prior in hard-fought losses to Vermont and Mount St. Mary's. Queens is 2-0 so far against NEC opponents after they opened the season with a 13-3 win over Le Moyne in a neutral-site match.
 
Carter Petersen leads the team with 18 point on a team-high 12 goals to go with six assists. Ryan McDaniel is close behind with 16 points on six goals and 10 assists while Ethan Scaffidi has 12 points on 10 goals and two helpers.
 
Michael White – who was named this week's ASUN Defensive Player of the Week – leads the squad with six caused turnovers for the year and Grant Isika is the top faceoff specialist having won 46 of 97 attempts (.474).
 
Goalie Boston Badraun has played all but 23 minutes for the year and owns an 11.64 goals-against average to go with 31 saves.
