LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Athletics is set for an exciting week of competition, highlighted by a historic moment for the men's soccer program as the Keydets host their first-ever postseason match at Patchin Field. The week also features the start of basketball season, Southern Conference women's soccer tournament action, rifle, water polo, wrestling and football.
Men's Soccer – HISTORY AT PATCHIN FIELD
For the first time in program history, VMI men's soccer will host a postseason match as the sixth-seeded Keydets welcome No. 7 Mercer to Patchin Field Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the opening round of the Southern Conference Tournament.
The historic matchup marks a significant milestone for the program and provides the Keydets with an opportunity to compete for a postseason victory on their home field.
VMI earned the opportunity to host after defeating Mercer, 4-2, on October 24 for its first Southern Conference victory of the season. The Keydets will look to replicate that performance Tuesday with their season on the line.
A victory would send VMI to Greensboro, North Carolina, Thursday to face third-seeded UNCG at 5 p.m. in the tournament quarterfinals.
Keydet fans are encouraged to come out to Patchin Field Tuesday afternoon and be part of history as VMI hosts its first-ever men's soccer playoff match!
