Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

VMI downed by #3 Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – Facing a nationally ranked opponent for the first time in program history, the VMI women's soccer team fell by a 9-0 score to host #3 Duke University in a lightning-delayed match Thursday night at Koskinen Stadium.
 
Scheduled for a 7 p.m. start, the game was postponed for 90 minutes before the squads could take the field.

With the win, Duke remains undefeated on the season at 4-0 while VMI falls to 0-5-1 for the year.
 
Game Summary
*Duke's Kat Rader bookended the scoring for the Blue Devils by scoring in the ninth minute of the match (8:18) and finishing the game with a goal with six seconds remaining before the end of regulation. She earned a hat trick on the night as she also scored in the 76th minute (74:51)
*The Blue Devils scored five goals in the opening half. Mia Minestrella scored the second goal for Duke before Avery Oder scored in the 14th minute (13:05)
*Farrah Walters and Sophia Recupero also scored for Duke in the opening half.
*Jocelyn Travers and Taylor Evans scored in the second half for the Blue Devils along with the two goals from Rader
 
Key Stats
*Duke took 40 shot attempts on the night – including 20 on frame – while taking 13 corner kicks for the night
*Freshman Isabella Franco led VMI with one shot attempt during the contest which sailed just wide of the Duke net to keep VMI off the board
*Rader and Recupero led Duke with six shots during the night while Walters and Kaylee Kim both took five  
*VMI goalie Maren Ryberg earned nine saves in 75 minutes of action before she was replaced for the final 15 minutes by Leslie Surita-Perez, who logged two saves in 15 minutes of playing time
