VMI falls to The Citadel on Senior Day

LEXINGTON, Va. – Looking for its first conference win of the season and third consecutive win over rival The Citadel on Senior Day, the VMI women's soccer team fell by a 2-0 score to the visiting Bulldogs Sunday afternoon at Patchin Field.
 
The game marked one of the final appearances at Patchin Field for VMI seniors Cadee Hegarty, Riley Boucher, Caroline Marini and Daniela Monastero as the four were honored prior to the game at midfield.
 
Game Summary
The two teams played to a scoreless first half and went into the break tied up with zero goals apiece.
 
Ten minutes into the second half (55:44), the Bulldogs (4-4-2, 1-1-1) got on the board when Alice Williamson took a cross from teammate Reagan Wise and put it past VMI keeper Maren Ryberg for the game-winning goal. Williamson would add an insurance goal in the 67th minute (66:46) off a corner kick from Cameron Martin to seal the win for the Bulldogs with 23 minutes to play in regulation.

*The Bulldogs earned a 16-7 shots advantage, including eight shots on frame
*VMI keeper Maren Ryberg earned six saves during the contest in her individual loss while The Citadel's Zoe Santos picked up the win with four saves.
