Cross Country set to compete at Shenandoah Twilight

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI cross country will lace up for their second meet of the season Friday when the Keydets compete at the Shenandoah Twilight hosted by Shenandoah University.

The women's 5K race begins at 6 p.m. and the men's 6K at 6:30 p.m. at the historic Kernstown Battlefield in Winchester, Virginia.

The men are led by senior Ben Hagerich and juniors Colin Crenshaw and Patrick Lowry as well as freshman Cameron Lambert, who showed well at VMI's opening meet two weeks ago in Richmond.

The women will be led by captain second classman Jillian Sisk, a 2023 Southern Conference All-Freshman Team honoree, and sophomore Reagan Gilman, who earned the same recognition in 2024.

VMI Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Zack Scott
"The men's squad brings a mix of experienced upperclassmen and a hungry group of freshmen eager to prove themselves.

"The Kernstown Battlefield course is an all-grass layout with steady rolling hills, a design that will challenge the team's rhythm and strength while offering a preview of championship-style racing. After opening the season at Pole Green Park, the men are ready to embrace the grind of a tougher course and measure their progress.

"This course will demand toughness and smart racing. It's exactly the kind of test we need at this point in the season. It features all-grass terrain with rolling hills, providing an important step in preparing the team for the Southern Conference Championship later this fall.

"This race will help our teams understand the kind of effort and composure it takes to succeed at the conference level. It's the next step in their development."
