VMI earns first result of season in draw versus Winthrop

LEXINGTON, Va. – Playing for the first time in Lexington, the VMI women's soccer team played to a scoreless 0-0 draw with visiting Winthrop Thursday afternoon on Drill Field #2.

The draw is VMI's (0-3-1) first result of the season and first result of VMI Head Coach Jim Robbins' tenure at the Institute. The score was Winthrop's first tie of the year as the Eagles now own a 2-1-1 mark on the young season.

It was also the third draw between the schools in the past six matches against each other.

Both teams had several close calls to putting the ball in the net, but shots sailed just wide or goalies made diving saves to keep the opposition at bay.
