Elon's leading scorer in 2024 – Grace Gelhaus – earned two goals midway through the opening period as she got behind the VMI defense for her first goal in the 26th minute (25:46) before putting another in less than a minute later at the 26:07 mark.

The two goals lifted the Phoenix (1-0-1) to a 2-0 lead at the half en route to their first win of the season.

The Phoenix would notch two more goals in the second half on scores from Lauren McCauley (59:17) and Abby Brinker (81:26) for the win on its home turf.

Close Opportunities for VMI
The Keydets (0-2) had two really close scoring opportunities in the second half but could not find the back of the Elon net.

VMI nearly scored again on a Rachel Baez corner kick in which an Elon defender headed a ball toward her own goal before being saved by a fellow defender to keep VMI off the board.
