Records fall as VMI concludes Electric City Invite

ANDERSON, S.C. – The VMI track and field teams finished up the Electric City Invite in impressive fashion with several school records being broken Saturday at the meet hosted by Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina.

The men's team finished in fifth place out of 21 teams while the VMI women came in seventh place overall.

Women's Highlights
Junior Shea Hart highlighted the meet for the women by breaking her own school record in the heptathlon with 4420 points over the seven events. Last year, she earned a 4418 to break an 11-year record held by Amanda Okani from the 2013 outdoor season.

Freshman Reagan Gilman broke the school record in the 800 meter in 2:14.18 as the best finish in program history for the event.

Sophomore Morgan Fraser won the high jump at 1.60 meters. Senior Eleyah Armstrong came in second in the 100m prelims in 11.82 seconds and freshman Naturale Faison came in sixth in 12.29 seconds. Armstrong would go on to place fourth in the 100m finals in 11.92 seconds.

Diamond Baker came in third in the shot put with a distance of 11.72 meters and freshman Ruth Dickersheid placed eighth at 11.18 meters.

Gretal Shank and Evelyn Anderson place eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 800 meter.

The 4x400 relay team of Olivia Hurd, Evelyn Anderson, Gretal Shank and Reagan Gilman placed fourth in 4:07.28.

Men's Highlights
Tazewell Rae won his first shot put individual title at the meet with a personal-best distance of 15.42 meters. Senior Hunter Davis was close behind in sixth place overall at 14.11 meters.

Zach Denton placed second in the long jump at 6.92 meters, and freshman Grant Fraser arrived in third in the high jump at 1.95 meters.

The Keydets will next compete at the James Madison Invitational in Harrisonburg, Virginia next Saturday, April 12 at Sentara Park.
