Women’s Track opens Catamount Classic with solid marks

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The VMI men's track and field team is off to a good start after opening the Catamount Classic with excellent marks Friday at the Catamount Athletic Complex in Cullowhee, North Carolina.

Day One Results – Catamount Classic

Sophomore Cameron Thomas highlighted the day for the Keydets by placing second overall in the pole vault with a height of 4.90 meters. Tyrus James also competed and finished 11th overall at 3.70 meters.

Xander Topos finished fourth in the 100m hurdles preliminaries in 14.95 seconds to qualify for the finals round Saturday. Freshman Rye Jackson showed well by finishing 20th overall in 17.68 seconds.

Multi-sport athlete Destin Moore earned a new personal record in the 100m prelims by finishing in 10.73 seconds to qualify for the finals round Saturday. Kevin Koumondji placed ninth in 10.90 – a new PR – and Keyandre Midgett logged a season-best time of 11.02 seconds for 14th place.

In the 5,000 meter run, Jake Falcone led VMI by placing ninth in 16:06 just ahead of senior Patrick Kiernan's time of 16:11 for 10th place. Peter Fiorillo represented the team well by earning 16th place in 16:30.
