Keydets return home to face ETSU

LEXINGTON, Va. – Looking to ride the momentum of a successful two-game SoCon road swing, the VMI basketball team returns to Cameron Hall to face ETSU Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in Lexington.
 
The game is designated as National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and several female cadet-athletes at VMI will be recognized for representing the Institute with honor and excellence.

A win over ETSU would ...
-- Improve VMI to .500 at 12-12 on the season and mark the Keydets' sixth SoCon win of the season
-- Snap a six-game losing skid to the Bucs
-- Be VMI's first win in over ETSU in Lexington since an 83-79 win on January 29, 2022

About ETSU (13-10, 6-4)
The Bucs are coming off a 72-69 nailbiting victory on Sunday afternoon against Furman and look to pick up a second straight SoCon win after falling in the prior two league matchups with UNCG and Chattanooga.
 
Quimari Peterson ranks among the league leaders in scoring at 18.3 points per game and Jaden Seymour is close behind at 17.6 ppg. John Buggs III – who scored 33 points against VMI back on January 1 – also averages double figures at 11.3 ppg.  Seymour also ranks among the league leaders in rebounding at 7.2 boards per contest.

All-Time Series History vs. ETSU (15-60)
In a series dating back to 1952, Saturday's game marks the 76th all-time matchup between the schools with the Bucs owning 60 wins to VMI's 15. VMI looks to snap ETSU's current six-game winning streak in the series. The two schools opened SoCon play against each other back on New Year's Day with the Bucs earning an 84-69 win over VMI in Johnson City, Tennessee.

VMI Basketball started off the month of February strong by picking up an 80-76 overtime victory over Western Carolina last Saturday at the Ramsey Center.

The Keydets (11-12, 5-5 SoCon) have won five of their last six league games including back-to-back road victories in the Carolinas this week. With the win, this marks the first triumph in Cullowhee since February 2020 and the first overtime victory of the season. The last time VMI won three straight Southern Conference road contests occurred during the 1997-98 season when the Keydets defeated Georgia Southern, Davidson and Western Carolina in early January of 1998. VMI was a member of the Big South Conference from 2003 to 2014 and last won three straight conference road games during the 2010-11 season.
