VMI Basketball announces 2026-27 schedule

LEXINGTON, Va. – With several key returners in place and a talented incoming signing class, VMI Basketball Head Coach Andrew Wilson announced Wednesday his team's 2026-27 season schedule.

The slate includes a trip to the Lone Star State of Texas in November to take on SMU and UT San Antonio, faceoffs with former Big South foes Longwood and Gardner-Webb, a return game with Southern Indiana and big road contests at in-state rivals Richmond and Virginia Tech.

The Keydets start the year off with VU Lynchburg at home on Monday, November 2, before embarking on their trip to visit SMU and UTSA from November 5-7.

"I'm very excited about our schedule for the 2026-2027 season," Wilson said. "We will play seven of our 12 non-conference games at home and will only leave the state of Virginia once for our road trip to Texas. This will be a nice changeup from the heavy travel we've had in years past. I believe the non-conference portion of our schedule will prepare us well for the upcoming challenges that lie ahead in the Southern Conference."

After matchups with UNC Central and Mary Baldwin, the Keydets will have two consecutive SoCon-Big South contests with Longwood and Gardner-Webb from November 18-21. A year after a thrilling win over Southern Indiana on the road, VMI will play host to the Screaming Eagles on Tuesday, Nov. 24 in Lexington, before traveling east to Richmond on Saturday, November 28 to close the opening month of action.

With the addition of Tennessee Tech to the league this season, the SoCon adjusted its league slate to begin conference action in early December when VMI will host UNCG and ETSU from Dec. 1-5. The Keydets will conclude non-conference action with home games versus Christendom and Bluefield College Dec. 7-10 and then take a short trip south to Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech on Monday, December 21, before taking a few days off for Christmas Furlough.

Conference play resumes December 30 when the Keydets host Furman to finish the 2026 calendar year before opening 2027 traveling to Western Carolina.

The regular season comes to a close on Saturday, February 27, when VMI hosts Western Carolina.

The 2027 Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Tournament will run from March 5-8 at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
