VMI Men in Fourth after Day 1 at SoCon T&F Championships

LEXINGTON, Va. – After a great opening day, the VMI men's track and field team presently finds itself in fourth place at the 2025 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by VMI Friday at the Corps Physical Training Facility.
 
The VMI men are currently in fourth place with 25 points. Samford's men totaled 60 points Friday to hold a 22-point lead over Furman for first place with Saturday's competition still in play.
 
VMI All-Conference honors
Eleven event titles were determined on day one, including senior Keyandre Midgett defending his SoCon title in the long jump with a distance of 7.07 meters to earn All-SoCon honors.
 
VMI sophomore Cameron Thomas also earned All-Conference recognition in the pole vault by placing third with a clearance of 5.00 meters.
 
Day One Excellence
*Senior Nick Brown is in good standing in the 400m finals Saturday by placing first in the prelims with a time of 48.52 seconds. Freshman teammate Anthony Wilkerson came in third in the prelims with a PR time of 48.97 seconds
*Brown also qualified for the finals in the 200m prelims by placing fourth overall in 21.94 seconds
*The men's DMR team of Luke Gaylor, Jack Webb, Patrick Lowry and Kevin Shank came in fourth place in 10:30.69
*Rae Tazewell led the throwers in the shot put with a fifth-place distance of 14.88m. Sophomore Rafe Clendenin finished seventh in the event at 14.55m
*Destin Moore led the way in the 60m prelims by placing sixth in 6.97 seconds to qualify for Saturday's final round. Midgett (6.98) and freshman Kevin Koumondji (6.99) also qualified for the finals by placing seventh and eighth, respectively
