LEXINGTON, Va. – After lifting VMI Baseball to a victory on the mound, senior
Caden Plummer was named Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week Monday afternoon as announced by the league office.
This is Plummer's first weekly honor and the 13th weekly SoCon pitching award for VMI. The right-handed hurler earned his second victory on the bump against Coppin State on Friday. Plummer tossed six innings, allowed no earned runs, and struck out a career-high 13 Eagles en route to a dominating 15-2 win.
Plummer's 13 strikeouts are the most for a Keydet pitcher since 2019. This season, Plummer has struck out a team-high 19 batters, which ranks 17th in the country, with two victories, tied for third-most in the nation.
After earning a 15-2 victory on Friday, VMI swept Coppin State in the three-game series, outscoring the Eagles, 44-4. The Keydets rank number one in scoring among all Division-I programs with 14 runs per game and boast a 1.90 team ERA, the 10th best in the nation.
Plummer and the Keydets will challenge nationally-ranked Virginia on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Charlottesville, Virginia.
