BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – VMI Baseball was stumped by Samford in the series opener Friday night at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
The Keydets (24-9, 2-5 SoCon) could not get the bats hot against the Bulldogs (15-17, 3-4 SoCon) in a 10-4 loss.

Scoring Summary
Second Inning: Samford struck first with a three-run frame.
Third Inning: Fitzwater retaliated with a no-doubt blast to deep right field, cutting the deficit to two.
Fourth Inning: VMI pulled within one after playing tricks on the basepaths and forcing an error in the field. However, Samford posted three runs in the bottom half to extend its lead, 6-2.
Fifth Inning: A bases-loaded walk led to a Keydet crossing the plate, but another multi-run frame by the Bulldogs made it 8-3.
Eighth Inning: Another home run and an RBI single plated two more Bulldogs.
Ninth Inning: The Keydets made a final effort by scoring on a sacrifice fly, but could not catch up in time.

The Keydets look to bounce back against the Bulldogs on Saturday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
