LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving had a strong start to the America East Championships on Wednesday afternoon at Goodall Pool.
The Keydets' men's 800 freestyle relay team consisting of
Jack Mills,
Matthew Picard,
Stephen Russell, and
Sam Castle broke the team record and placed third with a time of 6:36.19.
Also breaking team records were both 200 medley relay squads. For the men, it was Picard, Castle,
Layne Tucker, and
Max Brunner who finished in a blistering time of 1:29.10 while
Walden Wilder,
Mackenzie Byrne,
Noelle Tong, and
Emerson Cosner nabbed a stellar 1:48.53 mark for the women.
It was
Isabelle Haer who stunned on the boards for the Keydets, placing 11th in both the one- and three-meter with scores of 199.20 and 199.60, respectively. This puts Haer as the highest-placing freshman in VMI Women's Swim & Dive history.
Lane Jones also finished 11th in the one-meter dive, scoring 207.05 points.
VMI men will start day two in fifth place after earning 68 points while the women are in seventh with 54 points.
