Track & Field performs well on first day of Dixon Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The VMI track and field teams opened the first day of action with excellent times and distances Friday at the Darius Dixon Invitational hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
 
Day 1 Results
 
Sophomore Kevin Shank had the best finish of the day placing fourth overall in the 5000m run with a time of 14:43.32, the third fastest indoor 5K time in school history.
 
Senior Nick Brown finished ninth overall in the 400m dash in 48.61 seconds and was pursued closely by teammate Richard Edwards in 14th overall in 49.01 seconds.
 
Rafe Clendenin threw a distance of 53' 4.5" for 16th place in the weight throw.
 
Freshman Kevin Koumondji arrived in 40th place overall in 7.12 seconds in the 60m dash preliminaries.
