LEXINGTON, Va. – After helping the Keydets win their first Southern Conference match in 23 years, VMI Men's Soccer freshman defender
Jack Yough was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
This is Yough's first weekly award of his collegiate career, and the second weekly honor for a Keydet this season.
Yough scored his team-leading third goal in VMI's historic 2-1 victory over East Tennessee State on Saturday. Yough played all 90 minutes in the win and held the Bucs scoreless for the first 87 minutes on the back line.
With the triumph, VMI broke an 87-match skid in SoCon play, dating back to the 2002 season, and it marked the first win over ETSU in program history.
Yough and the Keydets march down to Macon, Georgia, for the first round of the SoCon Championship. As the sixth seed, VMI will battle No. 3 UNC Greensboro on Friday at 7 p.m.
