Western Carolina Notes
- Western Carolina started the SoCon season undefeated (5-0) and was receiving votes in both the Coaches and Stats Perform FCS Polls before falling by a field goal to Mercer
- Since losing to the Bears (currently No. 6/7), the Catamounts dropped last week's contest against ETSU
- Western Carolina's offense is one of the best in the country, powered by quarterback Taron Dickens who paces the nation with 35 passing touchdowns and is second in yards with 3,178
- The passing average of 356.5 yards per game is first at the FCS level, and the total offense of 491.0 yards per game is third
- The Catamount defense can be susceptible however, ranking 122nd in total defense allowing 476.3 yards per game with nearly 300 in the air (294.9 per game)
- James Tyre has proven to be the top target for Dickens, hauling in 11 touchdowns (4th, FCS) and averaging 5.91 catches per game (9th)
- Defensively, Jordan Thompson (82.0 tackles, 7.0 TFLs) and Samaurie Dukes (79.0 tackles, 7 passes defended, INT) lead the way for the Catamounts

A VMI win over Western Carolina would ...
- Be VMI's second consecutive win in the series at home (27-24, 2023)
- Make the series even in its last six games (WCU 3-2 in the last five matchups)
