VMI falls to ETSU, will face UNCG at SoCon Tournament

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The VMI women's soccer team dropped its final SoCon regular season game by a 3-0 score to host ETSU Sunday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium in Johnson City, Tennessee.
 
VMI will enter this week's Southern Conference Tournament as the No. 10 seed and will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, to face No. 7 host UNCG Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in the opening round. The winner will advance to face No. 2 seed Western Carolina in the quarterfinals Friday in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
 
VMI finished the regular season with a 2-16-1 record and 0-9-0 in conference play while the Bucs improve to 9-3-6 overall and 4-1-4 in the league. ETSU will enter the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play Friday night against No. 6 seed Mercer.

*The teams traded shots and possession in the early going before ETSU's Grace Eatz scored her first goal of the season in the 20th minute (19:58) off an assist from Georgia Shields for the game-winning goal
*Eatz earned a brace in the 27th minute (26:44) when she knocked in a goal off a pass from Reagan Fitzgerald and Jada Cooper
*In the second half, the Bucs earned an insurance goal in the 79th minute when Ava Duffey logged the final score of the match
