Keydets earn 2-0 win at Gardner-Webb

VMI snaps Gardner-Webb’s five game streak of not allowing a goal

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Looking to gain momentum ahead of the Southern Conference tournament next week, the VMI women's soccer team attained the feat by topping host Gardner-Webb by a 2-0 score Wednesday afternoon at Greene-Harbison Stadium in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.

The Keydets achieved their second victory of the season to improve to 2-15-1 while the Bulldogs fall to 4-8-3 overall. VMI's win is the second consecutive victory over Gardner-Webb as the Keydets snapped the Bulldogs' five-game streak of not allowing a goal.

VMI Head Coach Jim Robbins
"We played very well and turned in our most complete 90 minutes this season. It was great to get the two goals in the second half. We had a couple good looks for more. We also did well defensively to preserve the shutout. It was a great team win."

Game Summary

*Senior Riley Boucher scored her first goal of the season off a penalty kick that she put into the lower left corner for what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 64th minute (63:12)

*Just three minutes later, freshman Bailey Reid added an insurance goal for the Keydets as she took a throughball from teammate Taliyah Headman and slotted it to the lower left corner of the frame, which bounced off the post and into the net for the final tally of the match
