ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Coming off a record-setting 2023-24 campaign, VMI Rifle opened up its 2024-25 season on Saturday, facing off against reigning national-champion TCU and host Navy in Annapolis.
Although they were bested by No. 4 TCU and No. 8 Navy, the women's side posted an aggregate of 4498 – a score that was higher than any aggregate in the entire 2023-24 season.
Individually, Christopher Hicks led all Keydet shooters with an aggregate of 1156, totaling the highest score in the smallbore. Ryan Harlow was just a shade behind Hicks, firing a 1143 aggregate for the afternoon. Darian Tweedell had the top score on the women's side, totaling the highest score in the air rifle (590) and ending with an aggregate of 1138. Elizabeth Stann had a strong debut, registering the second-highest score on the women's team of 1125.
