LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI Rifle program will open up its 2024-25 season on Saturday, squaring off with reigning national-champion TCU and preseason No. 8 Navy. The action will take place in Annapolis.
A Look at the Keydets
VMI had a lot to be proud of in 2023-24, as they made multiple appearances in the top-20, which was a first for the program. Emma Cameron, Vicotria Phillips, Kyle Kemp and Zachary Mauriello all represented VMI at the Junior Olympic Rifle Championships in Colorado Springs in April. Kemp, Cameron and Phillips all return for the 2024-25 slate, joined by strong scorers Christopher Hicks and Ryan Harlow from the men's side. Due to all the success last year, Lt. Col. Bill Bither earned Southern Conference Coach of the Year honors for the second time in his career (2020).
Scouting TCU
The Horned Frogs (preseason No. 4) reigned supreme in 2024, claiming the national-championship with an aggregate score of 4,732, the second-highest score for a champion since 2013. The national championship was also the second for the program, which compete solely as a women's program. The Horned Frogs return two key contributors in Katie Zaun and Mikole Hogan.
Scouting Navy
The Midshipmen have quite a reputation in rifle as well, being ranked preseason No. 8 after finishing 6th in the 2024 National Championship. Navy will be led by Stephanie Milvain, who serves as the team captain and is a three-year letterwinner. Milvain helped lead Navy to its fifth winning season in six years in 2023-24.
