<span style="font-size:16px;"><strong>LEXINGTON, Va.</strong> – Three VMI basketball players were named to the 2023-24 NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) Honors Court for excellence in the classroom during the academic year.<br />

Cooper Sisco were listed based on their academic qualifications.<br />
<br />
The NABC Honors Court recognizes players who were academically a junior, senior or graduate student during the 2023-24 academic year. To be eligible, players must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the academic year and must have been a member of the varsity roster.<br />

<strong>
Jake Johnston</strong><br />
A computer science major from Bristol, Virginia, Johnston saw action in six games during his senior season and made his first career start on Senior Day against Wofford. He earned an assist and two offensive boards in VMI's win over Clarks Summit and converted a free throw at home against Furman during league competition. A SoCon Academic Honor Roll member, he received VMI's Charles R. Martin '55 Award given to a graduate accepting a regular commission and who has demonstrated excellence in military studies and outstanding leadership in the Corps of Cadets.</span><br />

DJ Nussbaum </strong><br />
Nussbaum played in 80 games over his VMI career and enjoyed a breakout senior season in which he ranked fifth in the SoCon in field goal percentage at .556 as he started 31 of 32 games on the year. The civil engineering major twice scored a career-high 14 points (at S. Carolina, at Radford) and earned a career-high nine boards vs. UNCG in addition to nearly earning a double-double at Wofford on Jan. 3 to open conference play. He was named the SoCon Academic Honor Roll and received SoCon Academic All-Conference accolades.</span><br />

Cooper Sisco – Economics & Business </strong><br />
An economics and business major from Frisco, Texas,
Cooper Sisco has sat out the past two seasons due to injury as he looks to return to action for the 2024-25 season. He was named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll this season while rehabbing from injury. As a freshman in 2021-22, he played in 16 games and averaged 4.0 points per outing.</span><br />
