LEXINGTON, Va. – One of the highest achieving academic teams on post, the VMI lacrosse team had six of its team members recognized by College Sports Communicators (CSC) to its At-Large Academic All-District Team announced Tuesday.
Keydet senior
Luke McDonald, juniors
Chris Golini,
Simon Moore,
James Boynewicz and
Erik Gottmann and sophomore
Jack Rogers were honored by the organization.
Only six male student-athletes and six female student-athletes are allowed to be nominated from each NCAA institution.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Award, the student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start at least 66 percent of the games.
Academically, the student-athlete must hold at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average as a sophomore or above.
"Something we preach in our program is that winning is an all-the-time thing," said VMI head coach
James Purpura. "ACES is an equation for life and I'm incredibly proud of the work our team put in this semester to achieve their academic success. They showed incredible work ethic and competed in the classroom just as they do on the lacrosse field.
"To have six young men accomplish this feat of not only producing on the field, but also in their studies truly shows the value of being a cadet-athlete and the importance that this program places on being the best version of themselves."
