VMI Baseball enters SoCon Championship as sixth seed

Keydets battle Mercer in first round

LEXINGTON, Va. – VMI Baseball earned the sixth seed for the Southern Conference Championship at Fluor Field in Greenville, South Carolina.

The Keydets will play in the elimination round on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against the seven-seeded Mercer Bears. The winner of VMI-Mercer will move on to the double-elimination portion of the bracket and face East Tennessee State on Thursday.

This will be the first time VMI plays as a sixth seed in SoCon Tournament history. Wednesday's first-round matchup will be the fourth time VMI has faced Mercer in the postseason and the 38th meeting between the two programs. Earlier this season, VMI defeated Mercer twice in Macon, Georgia to claim its lone conference road series victory.

UNC Greensboro claimed the top seed after going 15-6 in conference play with Samford close behind with a 14-7 league record. ETSU and Western Carolina get seeds three and four, respectively, to round out the top four. Wofford claims the fifth seed and will play eight-seeded Citadel on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in an elimination game.
