Basketball hosts Wofford for Senior Day

LEXINGTON, Va. – Playing its final home game of the season, the VMI basketball will play host to Wofford College Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cameron Hall to conclude the 2023-24 regular season.
 
As the final home game of the year, it will also serve as Senior Day for VMI senior cadet-athletes Devin Butler, Jake Johnston and DJ Nussbaum playing for the final time in Lexington.

With the Southern Conference tournament coming up next weekend, the Keydets will find out their tourney opponent Saturday night at the conclusion of all league games.
 
The Keydets look to bounce back from a loss Wednesday night against UNCG in Greensboro, North Carolina. VMI was led by freshman Corey Chesley, who scored a season-high 20 points against the second-place Spartans.

The VMI men's basketball team dropped an 87-85 overtime heartbreaker back on January 3 at Wofford College to open conference play.

The Keydets trailed by four in overtime but rallied to tie it in the final minute after back-to-back baskets from Tyran Cook and DJ Nussbaum. With the game tied at 85, Wofford's Corey Tripp drove into the lane and converted a layup against a Keydet double team with 3.8 seconds on the game clock for the deciding basket.

VMI senior guard Devin Butler scored a season-high 20 points, the most against a Division I opponent in his career, and drilled a season-high four three pointers.

Behind 16 three-pointers and 36 points from the combination of junior Dillon Bailey and sophomore Chase Cormier, Wofford is coming off a 91-69 dismantling of league leader Samford on Senior Night Wednesday in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
 
The win was the ninth conference victory of the season for the Terriers to bring their league record above .500 as the regular season comes to a close this weekend.  The win snapped a three-game losing streak for Wofford.
 
Corey Tripp leads Wofford with 15.6 points per game while Dillon Bailey is second at 12.0 points a contest.
