LEXINGTON, Va
. – The VMI wrestling team came back strong this week by earning a dominant 25-11 SoCon victory over Bellarmine before topping LIU in a thriller, 19-18, Friday evening at Cormack Hall.

The Keydets (9-8, 2-3) have now won three of the last four duals and beginning to peak at the right time with the Southern Conference Championships just a month away.

VMI 19, LIU 18
With VMI trailing, 18-13, with one bout to go, the highlight of the night came when VMI heavyweight Tyler Mousaw pinned LIU's Aeden Begue late in the first period (2:34) to lift VMI to an incredible 19-18 victory after earning six team points for the fall.

After he was taken down, Mousaw earned a reversal and Begue quickly flipped it with a reversal of his own. Not to be undermined, Mousaw registered yet another reversal and quickly put Begue on his back and got both shoulders to touch the pad for the incredible come-from-behind win, his second pin of the day.

The match went back and forth through nine bouts and featured one tie and five lead changes. VMI and LIU split by winning five bouts apiece, with the Keydets claiming three wins by decision, one major decision by Braxton Lewis at 174 and the pin by Mousaw.

VMI Head Coach Jim Gibson
"I'm very proud of our effort today. We wrestled through positions and wrestled gritty. The guys fought for each other and were rewarded with two big wins. This is a big momentum-builder for us heading into two conference matchups next weekend."

VMI 25, Bellarmine 11
In VMI's afternoon tilt with Bellarmine, the Keydets won seven of the 10 bouts in the SoCon win over the Knights.

Bellarmine opened the match with a 3-0 lead, but VMI's Dyson Dunham tied it up with a 10-3 decision over Bellarmine's Trayce Eckman at 133 pounds. Patrick Jordon followed up with a sudden death win over BU's AJ Rallo to move VMI ahead and the Keydets never looked back en route to the win.

Toby Schoffstall earned a major decision by an 11-2 count over the Knights' Sam Schroeder, and Mousaw topped it off by pinning Bellarmine's William Muckler in 4:25.
