VMI falls on Senior Day to #24 Campbell

LEXINGTON, Va. – Facing one of the top wrestling programs in the nation and SoCon leader in #24 Campbell, the VMI wrestling team gave its best effort in every bout but ultimately fell by a 46-0 score to the visitors Saturday night at Cormack Hall.

As the final home dual of the season, the match marked VMI's annual Senior Night. Nine cadet-athletes were recognized in a pregame ceremony including Ethan Barrett, David Diaz, Isaac Dolph, Travis Fridley, Reid Hampton, Brian Jackson, Freddy Junko, Tyler Mousaw and Josh Yost.

Altogether, the Camels – undefeated in conference action at 8-0 and 14-3 overall – registered five tech falls against the Keydets (9-11, 2-6) to go with one pin and three major decisions to earn the win over VMI.

Keydet 174-pounder Braxton Lewis gave Campbell's No.23-ranked Austin Murphy a good bout, but Murphy earned a late takedown in the third period for 4-1 win to beat Lewis, who was VMI's most consistent wrestler going into the match having won his last 10 matches.

Campbell's roster currently featured six nationally ranked wrestlers, all of which made an appearance against the Keydets.

With the regular season out of the way, the Keydets will prepare for the SoCon Championships slated for Saturday, March 9, hosted by App State in Boone, North Carolina.
