Lacrosse hosts St. Bonaventure Saturday morning

LEXINGTON, Va. – Facing another quick turnaround following Tuesday night's win over Hampton, the VMI lacrosse team will host St. Bonaventure University for a rare morning contest Saturday at 11 a.m. at Drill Field #2.

The Keydets (2-2) are coming off a 25-6 win over in-state foe Hampton Tuesday night. With the high scoring output, VMI tied for the second-most goals for a single game in program history, matching the 25 goals VMI put up against Hampton back on April 2, 2016. VMI Head Coach James Purpura earned his 13th career win at the helm to tie for second-most all-time in VMI's 41-year program for lacrosse.
 
Individually, junior attack Luke Rusterucci tied his career high with six goals to go with five assists for 11 total points – second most for a single game in program history. Charles Hunt also had a career game accounting for eight points on a career-best six goals in addition to two assists.  The eight points for Hunt is tied for fourth most for a single game in school history.
 
About the Bonnies (0-3)
A member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, St. Bonaventure is off to an 0-3 start to the season after opening the year with losses to Bellarmine (13-9), Binghamton (13-12 OT) and most recently to Robert Morris (16-11) this past Tuesday. Following Saturday's game at VMI, the Bonnies will have a two-week break before playing at Cleveland State on March 9.
 
Kellen Pulera leads the team with 12 goals on the season and is followed by Jake Kucinski's seven goals. Patrick Shanahan and Patrick Carpenter each have three after three games. Shanahan also serves as the primary distributor with four assists on the year while Carpenter and Benny Carter both have three helpers.
 
Ryan Olan has turned in five caused turnovers so far as St. Bonaventure's top defender. In the cage, Cristofero Cucciuffo has seen the most time with 150 minutes logged and has allowed 38 goals for a 15.19 goals-against average to go with 37 saves.
