LEXINGTON, Va. - The VMI Swim and Dive Teams opened up the America East Championship on Wednesday at the VMI Aquatic Center, with team, rat and personal records all being set in the Goodall Pool.
Off to a Fast Start
- Walden Wilder, who just set a rat record in the 400 IM at Virginia Tech, picked up where she left off, clocking a 2:02.45 in the 800 freestyle relay which is a personal best and top 10 time in program history
- Senior and Three-Legged Stool winner Kate Taylor etched her name into the record books as well, becoming the first female in VMI history to swim a sub-24 second 50-freestyle relay split (23.91) as she anchored the 200-medley relay
Making their Mark
- The men, meanwhile, had two team relay records set on Wednesday. Tinn Nguyen, Chase Lane, Tyler Blackwell and Matthew Picard broke the VMI record in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:30.88, earning 28 points for the Keydets
- Matthew Picard, Sam Castle, Elijah Fields and Dalton Cosner teamed up to set a new program mark in the 800-freestyle relay, clocking in with a time of 6:47.05
- Picard would show well individually, setting both a rat and team record in the 200 free (1:41.00)
Dive Results
- Layne Tucker placed 10th on 3-meter dive, collecting seven points for VMI
- Ryder Creal and Craig Swain placed 15th and 16th respectively in the 3-meter
- Ella Davenport represented the VMI women, placing 28th on 1-meter dive
