Men’s T&F finishes VMI Winter Classic

LEXINGTON, Va. – The VMI men's track and field team completed the 2024 VMI Winter Classic with excellent marks Saturday at the Corps Physical Training Facility.

With only two weeks to go before hosting the Southern Conference Indoor Championships, several Keydets earned personal-best marks and times to prepare for the big event.

Ben Hagerich won the 800 meter race with a personal record time of 1:55.51 to earn first-place honors. In the pole vault, freshman Cameron Thomas also won the individual event with a personal record height of 4.91 meters.

Freshman Patrick Lowry ran a 9:09.37 for third place in the 3000 meter, and Nick Brown earned a personal record time of 7.00 seconds in the 60 meter for sixth place.

Patrick Kiernan ran a PR in the 3000m in 9:22.46, and freshman Christian Hyman logged a personal-best distance of 13.60 meters to achieve eighth place in the shot put.

"As we make our final adjustments to prepare for the Southern Conference Championship, we had some personal best performances from our fourth classmen and upperclassmen with a small field of eight teams. We were able to have some good performances from our Keydets and see what adjustments we need to do as a team to compete to win."
