VMI Lacrosse announces 2025 schedule

LEXINGTON, Va. – Fresh off a record-breaking season, VMI head lacrosse coach James Purpura announced his team's 2025 season schedule Tuesday afternoon.
 
Currently, the Keydets are one of just two teams nationally to increase their win total in each of the last four seasons. The 2025 season will be one of excitement as the Keydets join the Northeast Conference (NEC) for the first time after being in the MAAC the previous two seasons. The Keydets open the season February 2 in St. Bonaventure, New York, and will play seven home contests at Drill Field #2 on North Post.

Preseason
The Keydets travel to Durham, N.C., to play defending national quarterfinalist and perennial power Duke in a preseason scrimmage on January 25. The Blue Devils finished 13-6 in 2024 and fell to Maryland in the national quarterfinals this past May.

A Tough Slate in 2025
The 2025 slate features multiple teams that received votes or were ranked at various points throughout the 2024 season.

An Action-Packed February
VMI will play four games in the month of February.

VMI opens the year on the road with a contest against St. Bonaventure on February 2. The following weekend, the Keydets will host High Point for the home opener on Saturday, Feb. 8. The Keydets then embark on a road swing with a renewal with former Southern Conference rival Mercer on February 15 in Macon, GA. before returning home to host Hampton for a midweek showdown on Feb 18. The Keydets then travel up to New York to play MAAC opponent Iona to close out the February slate on Feb 22.

Finishing Out-of-Conference and NEC Play Starts in March
After playing four games in February, VMI will return home to host Queens University for a midweek game on March 4. The following weekend, the Keydets will continue the road swing when they head up to CAA foe Monmouth on March 8 where they will finish their out-of-conference schedule before returning to games on Saturdays for the remainder of the season.
 
The Keydets begin their inaugural NEC conference season with a home game against Le Moyne on March 15. The following weekend, the Keydets will host Mercyhurst at Drill Field 2 on March 22 before hitting the road to play Cleveland State on March 29 which closes out the month of March.

The Final Countdown
The month of April continues NEC conference play. The Keydets will begin the month with a home tilt vs Detroit Mercy on April 5. The Keydets then hit the road for a conference road swing with games against Robert Morris on April 12, and Wagner on April 19. The Keydets conclude the regular season against LIU at home on April 26.

The top four teams in the conference qualify for the NEC Tournament, which begins with the semi-finals on Thursday, May 1, with the title game on Saturday, May 3. The NEC champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
