After an excellent season on the lacrosse field and elite performance in the classroom, VMI junior Dayton Bagwell was named the Northeast Conference's Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the sport of Men's Lacrosse as voted upon by league representatives.

On the academic side, Bagwell owns a 4.0 cumulative GPA as an international studies major. He is a 2025 and 2026 CSC Academic All-District recipient and two-time NEC All-Academic team honoree on top of multiple VMI Dean's List designations.

On the field, the York, Pennsylvania, native turned in a First Team All-Conference season as an attackman after leading the league in goals with 42, ranking seventh in the NCAA at 3.0 goals per game. The 42 goals for the year also ranks fifth most in program history for a single season. With seven assists for the season, he led the team with a combined 49 points.

Bagwell was named the NEC Player of the Week on February 23 after scoring a combined 14 goals the week of February 17-21 with seven goals at Navy in a hard-fought loss and seven goals at Hampton in a 17-15 victory.

The 85 career goals is currently ranked eighth most in program history. During the 2026 season, he joined VMI's exclusive 70 Goal Club – only the 18th Keydet in program history to reach the mark – and the 100 Point Club, only the 23rd Keydet in program history to hit the milestone.
